I sat down and wondered what to write on the blog for the holiday season. I thought of writing about Yule or the Winter Solstice, but that's been done over and over. I wanted to write something that means a lot to me about this time of year...the season of giving. Why is it called the season of giving? As such, shouldn't every season be one of giving?
I decided that there is only one thing that can be given throughout the year that truly matters the most. It is beautiful, yet simple. It is powerful, and it doesn't require batteries. It is soft, warm and gentle, and yet it's strong enough to withstand harsh criticism and language.
This gift is one of immeasurable value as well as being priceless. In fact it is completely free of charge...free to give and receive. If you haven't guessed by now, in my humble opinion, the greatest gift is LOVE!
Why have I chosen to write about LOVE on a wiccan blog? Well, truth be told, LOVE is the greatest magick there is! To quote a famous bestselling book; "Love is patient, love is kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude...Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
1 Corinthians 13:4-7. Yes, I went there. And before you get your feathers ruffled, let me say that there are some very valuable lessons in the good book. I have a few in my reference library actually.
The point I am trying to elude to is that wherever you look; in a book, in art, in a lover's eyes or a community, you will find love. Whether it's your family, best friend or your spiritual circle, there is love, and it is magickal! Although there is evil and hate in the world, love is strong enough to withstand and conquer it. You don't have to be a super religious person to see the power of love. It is truth and wisdom. It is in the smallest acts of kindness as well as the grand gestures. If we all spent more time sharing and showing our loving sides of ourselves, I believe this world would be so much better off. Don't forget that our world needs love, too.
So, let's all think of at least one loving thing to say to someone (or do for them) in your life every day. Maybe you will show some kindness to a stranger, donate your time to a charity, lend a helping hand to someone who needs it. Say "I love you" to someone...especially yourself! Self love is the ultimate gift you can give to yourself, because we all need to feel loved. There is a special magick with love that makes you feel good about yourself, good about others and good about life, and in this crazy world we live in, finding something to feel good about is important. Remember the Wiccan 3-Fold Law. That which you put out will come back to you 3-fold. So, let's put out some loving energy!
I love you all, Blessed Be!
Elizabeth
